Updating Office

Microsoft issues both security updates and non-security updates for the Office applications.

When an Office update appears, you should first use the Microsoft Update function to check for security updates.

You should then check for other updates by running any Office application, and then selecting:

File
Account
Office Updates
Update Now

This will install any outstanding updates in the background, allowing you to continue to use the Office applications … if you wish.

Note: on Mar 13, 2019, Microsoft made it much harder to learn about non-security Office updates. Prior to that date, Microsoft pub­lished a page which concisely reported all Office updates; after that date, Microsoft instead published a site which buries Office update information in a huge morass of details.
